The power of a pause

Earlier this month, I was having a chat with other “yoga people”.

A few of us (which included me) mentioned that we were constantly on the go and didn’t feel all that relaxed and grounded – even though we were all doing our usual yoga practice.

What became clear to us was that we don’t stop and pause during the day.

We do our practice and then we get on with what we have to do and don’t come up for breath until the evening.

As yoga teachers, we should really know better!

Taking little moments in the day when you pause will help you feel generally more relaxed, less scattered and more “on top of things”.

A pause

So, what can you do to take those mini breaks during the day:

  • Instead of switching on the radio/tv/audio book, spend a few moments in silence and allow your mind to wander and process whatever it needs to
  • Go for a short walk or stand in the garden and watch the world go by
  • Sit in silence without trying to meditate or focus on your breath. Just sit and be quiet

If you have a tendency to be always busy and to have a mind that constantly jumps from one thing to another, taking the time for these mini breaks will make a huge difference.

In a few days, you will find that you are less reactive, more grounded and more able to act rather than react.
