I’ll be honest.
I’m not.
Well, it depends. It’s complicated.
Some bits I like, some bits I don’t.
Some days are better than others.
Some days, I am pleased with the reflection in the mirror.
Some other days, all I can see is the lines around my eyes or the dark circles that underline them.
I’m pretty sure you can relate.
I remember seeing an interview with Emma Thompson.
She was being asked a question about body image.
In her answer, she reminded the journalist that women have been brainwashed all their life to think that there is something wrong with our body. And that, everything around us keeps sending us signals that there is something wrong with us and that we need to be this way or that way.
She really hit the nail on the head.
We have been conditioned to not accept ourselves. It starts at a very young age with the blonde little girl with the peachy skin and the blue eyes being the main star in tv series or movies. It carries on through magazines for our entire life.
No wonder we find it hard to accept the body we have, even though it does a hell of a good job for us, day in and day out.
The next time you look at yourself in the mirror and find something to criticise, try and change the focus.
Remember that we are brainwashed into not liking ourselves – so that we buy whichever miracle products will make us feel so much better.
Remember also what your body does for you.

Maybe you have carried children, maybe you garden or go for walks, you have your yoga practice, you bake, you laugh, you play with your children or grandchildren…
Your body is a lot more than the reflection you see in the mirror.
